Sigh... I really enjoy the series, the characters, the world, and the RH. I really love the characters and can't wait to read more. I also can't wait to get to know Kit's mom!!! I can't quite figure her out and I love the mystery. Is she there to help Kit? Hurt Kit? Intend to help but maybe in a hurtful manner because she is emotionally stunted? IDK... but I can't wait to find out (=

The thing that I'm not excited about... the cliffhanger endings. I hate them. The book is good. I'm already interested and want to read the next book. So why leave me riled up and frustrated and worried until the next book comes out.

**** Spoiler*****

Also... I'm kinda tired of her getting taken. Damsel in distress much? And also, it would be nice if she could hurry up and defend herself. Even a little bit. Her fighting for independence and getting upset at always needing to be saved is doubly annoying when she always has to be saved.... hopefully she is Kit 2.0 in the next book because she needs an upgrade.

The Viper Nest Kit Davenport Book 4 eBook Tate James Reviews

I started reading this series because other people kept recommending it over and over again, so I started reading and those people were most definitely right! This is a complete series which makes it even better to binge read the whole thing. I was wanting to leave a review after I finished each book but I just couldn't peel myself away long enough to be able to so I need to give each book 5 stars because damn, I am in love with this series. It is set in an amazing paranormal world with great sexy times with the MC's sexy guys. It has the right amount of humor and the author captures the MC's inner dialogue perfectly to give a good chuckle. There is the right amount of comedic relief to balance out the serious parts. Kit is still bonding her guardians and none of them are immune to everything despite being immortal and all that. They face so many challenges that keep the reader on the edge of their seat but still has the perfect amount of comedic relief and sass.
If you read this one, you better be prepared to read all 6 of these books!
It was just in my review of the previous book where I raved about how phenomenally consistent this series is in terms of awesomeness. I think I jinxed it because this book kind of disappointed me a bit. But bear with me until I explain it.
The thing is that after 3 previous books the world building and the characters are pretty established and there is no question that the author has an exceptional style. This means that the deciding factor is solely the storyline of each individual book. And that was really the reason I didn’t like this story as much as well.
The plot compared to the previous ones was pretty nonexistence, the whole book focused on the steamy, spicy connection between Kit and her boys and when it came to the grand scheme of things, namely the supernatural threat, there is almost no progression. It was a shame and while I love the romance between Kit and the others and I especially like that this RH story is not one of the slow burn ones. For me it felt a bit like they were sitting around and waiting for the other shoe to drop instead of investigating and working to understand a bit more about Kit’s powers. Yes, there are a couple of revelations but they all happen in the background and you as the reader only get to know them second hand.
I loved the romance part of the book, it was really exciting but it also was a bit boring if I look at it as a development in her relationship with the others because on that front there is not much of a change or progression, they settled into a comfortable dynamism and while its working if there is no move on either on the mystery side and either on the relationship side, then what’s the moving force behind the plot. However my favorite part of this book was new connection and playful banter between Kit and Austin. It was a welcomed change compared to the previous installment.
So in the end while I love the series, adore the characters and the connection between them, also can’t wait for the next one because the explosive and cliffhangerish ending guarantees it, for me this book felt more like a companion novel thanks to the lack of meaningful development of the plot.
I really like this series. Is it some literary classic marvel that I'll insist all my friends/family read? No. Is it fun and a little hot and does the storyline keep me guessing without being obtuse? Definitely.

For starters, it feels like the guys are almost all on even footing now, which is nice. I'll be intrigued to see what happens with River/Alpha in the coming books. I like that he's still "alpha" of the group despite their romantic involvement with Kit. I've read a lot of RH books where the woman is the de facto leader of the group simply because she's the woman in the relationship, and that makes sense most of the time, but it isn't a forgone conclusion for me.

This book has a few more smirk/chuckle-worthy scenes that I enjoyed.

I do agree with many of the other reviews I've read in that I'd like for Kit to move past this damsel in distress bit. It's made sense sometimes, but I do feel like it somewhat contradicts the character we were first introduced to in book 1. She'd take more offense to the things that have happened to her and would do more to prevent it happening again (I feel). However, I do remind myself of her age, and when I do that, her naivety makes a little more sense. Either way, the trope is getting tired and I'd like to see her move past it. If she's emotionally mature enough to handle a group relationship, she should handle her own life a little better.

I don't mind the cliffhangers. It's a classic literary strategy that many authors use. They want readers to want to read the next book. Easy. Additionally, as long as the books are released within say 6 months of each other, I don't feel like I'm being tortured by the author. And Tate pumps these books out so fast.

Can't wait to see what happens in The Crow's Murder.
