Joanna Pettigrew was leading a miserable life, so she decided to run away, gambling on something better. Her goal was to reach Brussels and pretty Belinda Dillon could just possibly help her, if she didn’t get in Belinda’s way. But it was Captain Nicholas Goldsborough who took her in hand, though as a high born gentleman and strikingly handsome, he should rightly have belonged to Belinda—shouldn’t he? Sequel to The Substitute Bridegroom. Regency Romance by Charlotte Louise Dolan; originally published by Signet

This is a wonderful story. Charlotte Louise Dolan is another wonderful story teller. She is very good at blending her characters and story into a great flowing story. I love a story that does not lag. Also one that makes you want to keep reading until the end and want more. This is the story of Nicholas and Joanna. Nicholas was in the war with Joanna' s brother, who dies and leaves Joanna without anyone. Nicholas says he will see Joanna home to England. It takes awhile before Nicholas realizes he loves Joanna. I recommend this story.Product details

The Resolute Runaway edition by Charlotte Louise Dolan Romance eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed the Substitute Bridegroom and expectations that this book would be just as good... it wasn't. It wasn't bad, just wasn't as good. It is an okay read.
Perhaps I am being too harsh in comparing this book to others by Dolan which I have rated highly? She does write well. This story, however, seemed to me to be an odd mix of quite grim (mean treatment and the consequences of war) in the beginning and silliness at the end.
A true Regency, it contains language, history, and fashion necessary to a book calling its self a regency. Good read.
Sweet, charming, lightly amusing...Fun to connect with characters from other books, and find out their fates...one small objection the dresser would not have been addressed by "miss" by her employer's daughters...only by last name, without a title...the dividing line between servants and mistresses was sharp....but on the whole a delightful text, as I have come to expect from this author...
Unlike the first book in this series, titled "the Substitute Bridegroom," the heroines in this story were both disagreeable in their own distinct way. One was too timid and the other too brash. I could find no reason for either of their admirers to be attracted to them. Such a disappointment.
I really enjoyed this read. I love getting into the lives of secondary characters from other books. It was wonderful to see the man the hero became, after seeing him so young in "The Substitute Bridegroom". The heroine was very endearing. A traditional regency in the best sense. Not too far off the beaten track, but not completely stuck walking in previous footprints either. Plus a clean romance. It was also nice to get resolution for the hero's cousin, another secondary character in the first book.
I think that I liked best that this is connected to the Substitute Bridegroom as Nicholas is Elizabeth's brother and he turns out quite well in this tale. There is a brief but well done bit about the battle and aftermath of Waterloo. There are really despicable characters and some really great side stories that are well fleshed and nicely concluded. I just hate that Blackheart gets off again...a delightful read.
